Finally managed to get a mostly clean boot on the IDE disk with: kernel parameters: acpi=off irqpoll BIOS: SATA controller at AHCI This went through the udev in just a couple of seconds. Those settings worked as well for the SATA disk. So some progress, at least now it is possible to boot to running Mandriva 2008.0
